Lakewood man to be convicted of federal wire fraud



Lakewood man accused of receiving over $ 150,000 in Social Security Disability Insurance Benefits pleaded guilty Thursday to a federal charge of wire fraud.

Valentino Valeriu Agignoae, 55, has been accused of fraudulently receiving money from the Social security administration Between january 2007 through april 2015, according to a press release from Office of the United States Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois in Rockford.

Agignoae began to receive Social security administration disability insurance benefits in 1996. These benefits ended in 2015, following a multi-year survey conducted by the Social Security Administration Office of the Inspector General, according to the press release.

The investigation revealed that part of Agignoae’s ploy included his failure to inform the Social security administration that he was able to work and worked in a restaurant in Chicago, which he partially owned. Agignoae was also accused of lying and making false statements about his previous work and employment.

He must be condemned on January 13 and faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.
