BrightBuilt Home is an architectural design firm that guides the accelerated delivery of net zero energy homes achievable primarily through the use of offsite construction. We believe deeply in our mission to more rapidly expand the supply of attractive, accessible and well-performing homes for all by using the existing infrastructure of off-site construction and assembly companies as partners.

We are looking for an affable person with proven experience in project management. Strong communication, writing and editing skills are essential. Ideally, you have passion, drive, brilliant ideas, engaging energy, and an interest in people.

We are looking for candidates who live within commuting distance of our office in downtown Portland, but offer a flexible environment with options for in-person and remote work. You must be able to attend construction site tours within 3 hours of Portland, Maine, attend regular client meetings and in-person office events.

This position reports to:

Director, Principals

Role:

A Design Coordinator works independently to design and coordinate single-family homes for individual owners or developers, assist in the development of new process initiatives, and actively collaborate and participate in the execution and growth of BrightBuilt’s mission .

Qualifications:

Obligatory: Minimum BS or BA in Architectural Design completed or substantial field and design experience. 3-5 years of relevant work experience with demonstrated ability to perform all responsibilities. Location within commuting distance of our Portland office and ability to attend construction site tours within 3 hours of Portland, regular client meetings and in-person office events, occasionally on weekends -end. Access to the office requires climbing stairs. Construction administration requires navigating construction sites that lack accessibility features.

Prefer: Concentration in sustainability practices and design.

Skills:

Obligatory: Excellent aesthetic and technical design skills, strong written and verbal communication skills, drafting with BIM modeling experience

Prefer: Training/interest/experience in the field of sustainable design, understanding of high performance building assemblies and general building science design principles, proficiency in Mac, Archicad, Microsoft Office, Gsuite, Adobe Creative Suite, Keynote or Powerpoint

Responsibilities:

Design skill:

Independently develop design layouts and features, which require researching, compiling and recording information for assigned project work

Develop assembly details as required

Coordinate review and approval of concept designs with colleagues or mentors as needed

Technical capacity:

Provide building information modeling, research, renderings as required

Plan and prepare construction documents, if required

Project management:

· Serve as primary liaison with clients, builder and fabricator to complete projects on time, within budget and with maximum client satisfaction

Coordinate production work and work with assistant design coordinators

Communication:

Be relied upon to present technical and design solutions directly to the client

Manage all communications and project documentation that relates to project design and specifications

Write reports, memos and provide correspondence as required by projects

Team work:

· Work in a collaborative team structure with other architects and designers on single and multi-family residential projects

· Contribute to the continuous improvement and development of internal and project processes

Industry awareness:

Strive to integrate sustainable solutions throughout your work

· Produce work consistent with the quality and design aesthetic of the company and region

Participate in relevant industry organizations

Personal development:

Participate in the culture of the office

Aim for professional and personal development

Leadership:

Coach the Assistant Design Coordinators through drawings and production of project materials as required

· Take specific initiatives to support sales, marketing and company mission related efforts such as 3D printing, renderings, energy modeling, etc.

· Resolve project conflicts with management support and facilitate solutions that satisfy the needs of all parties

Remuneration, schedule and (excellent!) benefits

Expected salary range for this role, commensurate with experience: base salary of $48,000 to $70,000 with total compensation ranging up to $57,360 to $80,140. We offer salaries at or near the top levels in the region.

This offer includes 3 weeks paid/personal/sick vacation annually. Our benefits package also includes 100% medical coverage on health insurance and 100% coverage on disability insurance. Additionally, BrightBuilt Home offers a 401K benefits plan that allows you to save for retirement. With this plan, BrightBuilt Home will match your contributions up to 4% of your salary. There is no waiting period to receive this benefit; you are eligible to join the 401K plan when you are hired. Salary and all benefits will be pro-rated based on the number of days worked per week. We value your time and a healthy work-life balance. We observe a 40 hour work week and time spent on project work beyond your weekly obligation is reimbursed as compensation time.

We also offer 10 paid holidays and 3 paid floating holidays. A transportation allowance of $60/month. will be provided and may be spent on a parking space, bus pass or retained by you if other means of transport is used. Bonuses are distributed according to the hours worked and the success of the office. Each year, each employee has the opportunity to spend up to $500 and two days pursue professional development, which may include attending a conference, taking a course, or participating in another approved activity. Designers interested in obtaining a license also benefit from access to company-paid training materials and reimbursement of expenses from ARE upon successful completion of testing. We also offer a paid community day with the whole office and up to 24 hours paired during the year for any community service projects you would like to pursue.
